Participative performance / self-organized conceptual art residency / missing object (2018)
In a family apartment residency was arranged for fellow artists with an idea to discuss, share and heal frustrations connected to the open calls in the field of art and culture. A self organized artist in residence programme was focused on sound and performance, and welcomed around 10 people. It is imagined as an ongoing audio recording capturing the movement of the group, therefore occasional or planned performances as well as private situations and talks are mutually blurred in their final (audio) form.
The residency in its topic is discussing survival politics of artists and culture workers who depend on art and culture funds and outside resources. Small successes and failures, big frustrations are communicated in the context of pure existence, which is constantly in question, while we remain in an ongoing and looping process of applying - an everyday ritual. The key word is: (un)certainty.
The idea, the structure as well as the public visibility of the residency brings a certain amount of sarcasm, highlighting the absurdity that we are living in. It was defined as a private secret AiR programme, because participants have been chosen on private basis, and the open call was actually announced one day after the deadline for application passed. In this way whoever thought of applying to this residency was doomed to failure. SD card, from an audio recorder, which is marked as an archival object, was symbolically declared missing, and stayed as a photo - presenting this participative artwork.
